Dear Colleagues,

In April we visited the Mastery Collaborative, a network of public schools in New York City working together toward greater competency-based and culturally responsive education practices. Our blogs include an overview of the collaborative, strategies for diversifying your student body, using design principles for student projects, and other topics from two school visits:

  • The Mastery Collaborative: Dozens of NYC Schools Support Each Other’s Reforms
  • Diversifying the Student Body and Personalizing Student Schedules at NYC iSchool
  • Mastery-Based Making: The Urban Assembly Maker Academy

We had three terrific guest posts this month:

  • Joy Nolan – What’s College Like for Students from Mastery-Based High Schools?
  • Tony Monfiletto – What Happens When You Really Listen? Student Voices and Reshaping Policy
  • Afton Partners – Defining Financial BOLDNESS in Innovative School Plans

CompetencyWorks also shared lessons from multiple visits to rural competency-based schools, and provided quick summaries of many new resources in competency-based education.

Last, two important announcements:

  • Registration is now open for the 2019 iNACOL Symposium, October 28-31 in Palm Springs, CA.
  • iNACOL will offer an Introduction to K-12 Competency-Based Education webinar on May 23, 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET

We hope that you will join us!
