Leadership Competencies

PLearning Journey

Dear Colleagues,

CompetencyWorks has launched a series focused on Idaho, in an effort to understand how mastery-based learning is advancing there across seven schools and four districts:

1.    Mastery-Based Learning in Idaho

2.    Finding Synergy at Kuna Middle School

Chris Sturgis of CompetencyWorks has offered a list of summer readings on competency-based education. The list includes topics such as the learning sciences; reading for newbies seeking to understand what competency education is; building commitment; preparing for implementation; and thinking ahead on the issues and challenges in the field of competency-based education.

CompetencyWorks is hosting a leadership forum on October 21, at the iNACOL Symposium. The forum is educator-only and will be for people who have been implementing competency education for a year or more to share their insights and push forward-thinking in the field. Be sure to register for the pre-conference. In addition to the pre-conference workshops, the iNACOL Symposium will be offering competency-based education sessions. Here are a few below:

1.  Systemic Implementation of Competency-Based Learning - Lessons Learned from Over 10 Years of Experience

2.  Design Thinking as a Pathway in Competency-Based Education

3.  Convergence of Project-Based, Competency-Based and Deeper Learning

4.  NextGen Graduation Requirements With MyWays

5.  Designing a Mastery Grading Policy with an Equity Lens
