Stay tuned\u2014several blogs are forthcoming which will elaborate on her findings.<\/li>\n<li>Roughly 600 colleges are actively designing or implementing competency education programs, up from 52 institutions last year. A group of college officials is meeting in Phoenix <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2015\/09\/10\/amid-competency-based-education-boom-meeting-help-colleges-do-it-right\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to develop competency-based credentials and discuss quality<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>News from the US Department of Education<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The US Department of Education <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ed.gov\/2015\/09\/guidance-for-competency-based-education-experimental-site-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released guidance on competency-based experimental sites<\/a> for higher education to offer support for both new and experienced CBE providers. They will also be issuing an expansion of the current CBE experiment by the end of this year.<\/li>\n<li>University of Wisconsin-Extension interim associate dean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/quicktakes\/2015\/09\/24\/u-wisconsin-official-takes-temporary-federal-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deb Bushway accepted a temporary post at the U.S. Department of Education<\/a> as advisor to Under Secretary Ted Mitchell. Deb is an expert in competency-based education and will focus on innovating in higher education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Partnerships<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Educational Leadership program in Texas Tech University\u2019s College of Education will partner with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everythinglubbock.com\/news\/local-news\/educational-leadership-program-part-of-72-million-grant-for-training-reform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">build a grant-funded, competency-based training model for school principals<\/a>. The $7.2 million federal Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) grant will impact leadership training in high-need schools in Texas, Louisiana and Indiana.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/campustechnology.com\/articles\/2015\/10\/05\/brandman-u-launches-new-online-learning-platform-with-no-textbooks-required.aspx?admgarea=news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandman University partnered<\/a> with Flat World Knowledge to create MyPath, which incorporates adaptive learning, game-based learning, data analytics and social learning in a competency-based education model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>News and Resources<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Achieve and Jobs for the Future jointly published <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jff.org\/publications\/integrating-earning-college-credit-high-schools-accountability-systems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Integrating Earning College Credit in High Schools into Accountability Systems<\/a><\/em>. Because earning college credit prior to postsecondary enrollment is a predictor of college success, both Achieve and Jobs for the Future encourage states to incorporate measures into their accountability systems relating to earning college credit in high school.<\/li>\n<li>President and Chief Executive of the Lumina Foundation Jamie P.
