The biotechnology program has partnered with Nelson Laboratories, BioFire Diagnostics and ARUP Laboratories, three local biotechnology companies that anticipate creating hundreds of new jobs in the next five years, for development of new curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>Brandman University\u2019s contribution to innovative programs for higher education business and financial management recently <a href=\"https:\/\/brandmannews.org\/2016\/08\/nacubo-innovation-award-highlights-integrated-functions-brandman-mypath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earned it the Innovation Award<\/a> from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Thought Leadership<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Allan Golston, President of the U.S. Program at the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, discusses setting goals for success in the Back to School season, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/allan-golston-\/whats-working-setting-goa_b_11697120.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">highlights Lindsay Unified School District\u2019s success<\/a> through competency-based education.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ryancraig\/2016\/08\/25\/hacking-competency-based-education\/#57f3b9015d51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In this Forbes article<\/a>, writer Ryan Craig explores hacking competency-based higher education through short, specific competency-based assessments to students along their postsecondary education trajectory.<\/li>\n<li>In a two-part interview, John Milam (Executive Director at Lord Fairfax Community College) reflects on the process of <a href=\"http:\/\/evolllution.com\/programming\/program_planning\/launching-a-unique-competency-based-offering-at-a-community-college-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launching a unique CBE program<\/a> that ties in open education resources (OER) and <a href=\"http:\/\/evolllution.com\/programming\/program_planning\/launching-a-unique-competency-based-offering-at-a-community-college-part-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">discusses what it takes to mainstream<\/a> an innovative concept.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>News<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Ellucian, Eduventures and the American Council on Education (ACE) partnered on a three-year study to deconstruct CBE and assess institutional activities, goals and challenges in higher education. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ellucian.com\/Blog\/CBE--Why-so-much-interest-but-so-little-traction-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here\u2019s a snapshot of year one findings<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Adult learners make up a significant portion of college enrollment over the next ten years, and competency-based education can accommodate this growth and create opportunities for historically underserved populations <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationdive.com\/news\/adult-education-the-future-of-higher-ed\/425645\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">through continuing education programs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Inspector General released an <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/about\/offices\/list\/oig\/auditreports\/fy2016\/a05p0013.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">audit report<\/a> evaluating the efforts of a large regional accrediting body, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), to evaluate competency-based programs. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/davidhalperin\/risks-of-fraud-in-compete_b_11461358.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The report indicated<\/a> there were not adequate procedures in place to properly classify competency-based education courses. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/tipsheets\/morning-education\/2016\/08\/john-king-heads-abroad-215748\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In a response<\/a>, the WASC said it
