See this article in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/quicktakes\/2017\/06\/19\/competency-education-group-opens-membership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Inside Higher Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Policy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/quicktakes\/2017\/06\/12\/bipartisan-bill-competency-based-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bipartisan bill was introduced<\/a> in the U.S. House of Representatives last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/house-bill\/2859\/actions?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22competency+based+education%22%5D%7D&amp;r=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">R.2859\u2014Advancing Competency-Based Education Act of 2017<\/a>, which would create a demonstration project for CBE programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>CBE in the News<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/philadelphia\/news\/2017\/06\/22\/temple-experts-why-mba-grads-need-much-more-than.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This article<\/a> highlights Temple University\u2019s efforts to establish competencies for business education.<\/li>\n<li>Steve Gunderson, former congressman and current president and CEO of the Career Education Colleges and Universities, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/jun\/7\/college-graduates-can-be-aided-by-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote an article<\/a> about connecting the Higher Education Act to jobs, including a recommendation to provide access to and recognition of credentials and competency-based pathways.<\/li>\n<li>This article describes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/section\/read\/214595\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">why Rwanda needs CBE in institutions of higher learning<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Events<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) is sponsoring an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvent.com\/d\/k5qx1w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adult Learner Academy workshop<\/a> in Philadelphia from August 1-3 at Orleans Technical College.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pr.com\/press-release\/721072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for more information<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Lumina Foundation, Army University, and the Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) hosted an education symposium June 20 and 21 in Kansas City, Mo. The symposium was titled,\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.luminafoundation.org\/news-and-views\/lumina-army-u-and-cben-host-education-symposium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A Competency-Based Approach to Talent: Connecting Military, Higher Education, and Workplace Learning<\/a>\u201d and connected academia, industry and the public sector to work toward developing a competency-based approach to credentialing and talent recruitment\/development<em>.\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.luminafoundation.org\/news-and-views\/perfect-storm-skills-shortage-threatens-economy-but-we-have-a-path-forward\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here is an article about the meeting<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Resources<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Education Commission of the States released a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecs.org\/ec-content\/uploads\/PS-Competency-Based-Education.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Policy Snapshot of Competency-Based Education<\/a>, which provides a summary of 2016 and 2017 legislative activities, and legislation, board policies and programs from prior years.<\/li>\n<li>AEI released <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalaffairs.com\/storage\/app\/uploads\/public\/doclib\/HigherEd_Ch5_JamesKelly.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Promoting Innovation in Higher Education<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>by Andrew P.
