Taken together, the policy priorities challenge lawmakers and education decision-makers to wield their influence and take advantage of opportunities to disrupt the traditional one-size-fits-all model of K-12 teaching and learning and unleash learning from the confines of place and time. The priorities include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Establishing a vision by developing a Profile of a Graduate<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creating the conditions for equitable learner-centered, competency-based education systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transforming systems of assessments\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aligning accountability and data systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supporting educators to thrive in a competency-based system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Redesigning learning experiences\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis set of policy recommendations allow state policymakers to set the stage for advancing more equitable and effective K-12 systems that are personalized to the needs of each learner,\u201d said Virgel Hammonds, CEO of the Aurora Institute. \u201cTo prepare all of our learners for prosperous futures, we need to transform our education systems to be more future-focused and relevant.
