Participants will take a journey with one student and school to rethink what learning looks like and where it takes place. During the school shutdown, teachers were often teaching to black boxes leading many to wonder, what are they learning and where is it happening? At Highland Park High School, the staff went directly to their students to try to answer these questions, and the resulting conversations reshaped how they approach the work students do and how their work is valued by the school.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Experience one student’s learning journey and the implications for the current state of school.
  2. Develop an understanding of where learning takes place and how students feel authentically valued by their school.
  3. Have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel to develop a clearer sense of the application to their own work.
