On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm ET, iNACOL hosted a Leadership Webinar focused on federal and state policy updates, including reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), current U.S. Department of Education Initiatives to support personalized learning, and state course access and innovation zone policies.

Maria Worthen highlighted iNACOL’s federal and state policy advocacy activities, provided a federal update on ESEA, focusing on key elements within the Senate reauthorization bill that help to advance new learning models. She also explored how states are advancing flexibility for schools and districts to implement personalized, competency-based learning through course access and innovation zones. From a federal perspective, Richard Culatta presented on specific U.S. Department of Education initiatives, including FutureReady and ConnectED. From a state perspective, Buddy Harris provided insight on Ohio’s competency education district pilot bill.
