Issues in Practice, How to Get Started
How to Get Started with Maker Education
Maker education is about giving students access to a new class of technologies, enabling students to design, build, invent and problem solve in new and unique ways. This type of tinkering allows students to transform ideas into reality, sparks interest in STEM careers and develops growth mindset, curiosity, self-efficacy and collaborative problem-solving. Schools and districts are designing makerspaces to inspire the next generation to invent and learn vital skills to be successful in college, career and citizenship.
How can teachers bring maker education into their school or classroom? Teachers can start small with simple circuitry materials, cardboard and hot glue guns—and they can go bigger with soldering, 3D printers and laser cutters.
Watch this archived webinar and learn with teacher and maker coordinator Lindsey Own and teacher Lina Rose how to get started with makerspaces across all subjects in your school or classroom. Learn the basics, understand the benefits to students, and leave with practical ways and examples to bring maker education to your students.
