Transitioning to competency-based education (CBE) requires a shift in learning experience design. In this session, you will learn about Building 21’s Studios, which are 6-12 week competency-aligned, problem-based learning experiences that allow students to investigate relevant content and demonstrate mastery of competencies through performance assessments and authentic implementations of learning. You will explore the studio model and leave with essential resources to start designing studios in your school or district.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Experience one student’s learning journey and the implications for the current state of school.
  2. Develop an understanding of where learning takes place and how students feel authentically valued by their school.
  3. Have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel to develop a clearer sense of the application to their own work.
