The Michigan Assessment Consortium and the Michigan Department of Education have created a professional learning program that builds understanding of assessment principles and assists educators in developing and implementing performance assessments. This work includes 50 hours of professional learning that complements competency-based education. Our session will include program developers and practitioners who detail the program design, intent, implementation, and directions for next steps.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the scope, design, format, intent, implementation, and next steps of the performance-assessment professional learning program.
  2. Understand the principles of performance-based assessments and how performance-based assessments support competency-based education more broadly.
  3. Understand how performance-based assessments support more rigorous learning opportunities for students and promote equitable experiences and outcomes.
