With a universe of online content in the palm of their hand, today’s students are increasingly engaging in purposeful, self-directed, interest-driven learning outside of school. This embodiment of anytime, anywhere learning is the focus of my new book, Free Agent Learning: Leveraging Students’ Self-Directed Learning to Transform K-12 Education. This session will provide an insider view on the activities and motivations of Free Agent Learners and unpack implications for the future of education.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Gain a new appreciation for students’ lived experiences outside of school using technology for self-directed learning.
  2. Understand how those experiences are changing students’ expectations for in-school learning experiences.
  3. Learn new ways to incorporate Free Agent Learning within school-based learning environments.
