Educator Micro-Credential Pathway Adoption in Rhode Island
Join the Aurora Institute and representatives from the ExcEL Leadership Academy and Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) as they discuss findings from a recent Aurora report about competency-based teacher credentialing in Rhode Island. UCLA’s ExcEL Leadership Academy created a progression of 12 micro-credentials focused on the skills and competencies educators need to serve multilingual learners (MLLs) effectively. Last year, RIDE designated the full set of 12 micro-credentials as an approved program for the state’s ESOL teacher certification. In this session, you’ll hear about the benefits of competency-based teacher certification, Rhode Island’s unique approach to program approval, and recommendations for other states interested in offering educators high-quality competency-based pathways to certification and/or professional growth.
