In May 2022, KnowledgeWorks and Research for Action will release the first-ever investigation of approaches, challenges, and possibilities of implementing personalized, competency-based learning at a state level. The study characterizes typologies for systems-level efforts that center equity and student agency. Learn how four states are approaching systems change, supporting educators, and elevating student agency, plus the challenges of COVID-19, polarization, and assessment/accountability pressures.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explore findings from the first study of efforts to scale equity-focused, personalized, competency-based learning.
  2. Understand challenges to implementation and research of such efforts.
  3. Surface potential solutions to a set of core challenges.
