Learner agency is a set of skills, mindsets, and opportunities that support ownership, voice, and autonomy to meet specific goals. Sunnyside Unified School District integrates formative assessment, socio-cultural practice, connected learning, prior knowledge, and skills of agency to create transformative and equitable experiences for students. In this panel, students share perspectives on what it means to have agency, what spaces teachers create for learning how to learn, and how prior knowledge contributes to agency.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the central tenets of student agency in learning.
  2. Explore how formative assessment, socio-cultural practice, connected learning, and prior knowledge support student agency.
