Student-Centered Accountability and Assessment Coalition: Emerging Opportunities for Rethinking Federal Assessment and Accountability Design

Breakout Session - October 25, 2022 | 1:15-2:15pm ET

This session will describe national efforts to rethink assessments for learning based on a new vision, one deeply invested in equity, to catalyze innovation and the creation of a learning agenda to inform the next Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) reauthorization. Working together with state leaders and the field, we examine how to recenter the needs of local stakeholders in national conversations about rethinking accountability with better transparency while improving assessments, measurement, and school quality.

Session Learning Outcomes:

  1. Illustrate important policy shifts occurring at the federal level paving the way for the design of student-centered assessment and accountability systems.
  2. Understand how states are rising to this moment to advance new approaches to assessment and accountability.
  3. Identify strategies for accelerating this momentum at the federal, state and local levels, and inform the next reauthorization of the ESEA.
