School closures due to COVID-19 have impacted at least 124,000 U.S. schools and affected at least 55.1 million students, according to Education Week. For weeks now, school leaders have been grappling with delivering high-quality remote learning experiences that are tailored to the individual needs of their communities, ensuring safety, increasing access, and confronting the calculus of reopening school buildings once shutdown orders are lifted.
Some districts, who have been on the journey to innovating for anytime, anywhere learning, were well-positioned to trigger long-held and well-practiced continuity of learning plans. This preparedness enabled them to switch from in-person to remote learning in as little as 24 hours in some cases.
